The second kind of relation between celebrityworship freedom and truth is grounded in the fact that since the proper object of freedom is always something important – something which is able to motivate the subject – the higher the important is (values instead of the agreeable; moral values compared with other kinds of values), the more freedom actualizes itself, so that the person must know the highest in the hierarchy of the important, values, and most of all what is the most important for him – moral values – in order to be authentically free. Here the problem of the relation between knowledge and freedom, between intellect and willing, is at stake, because the free will can hinder knowledge, most of all when the object deeply involves the person and requires a humble attitude as in the case of moral values. As we have seen, an essential feature of Hildebrand's notion of freedom is its intentional character.

According to Hildebrand's realist position, this not only implies that any free decision or act is directed to an object, but also that this object transcends the acting person and is the measure for the act, so that not yet realized states of affairs are the proper object of the will as lord of actions; what is not under the direct power of the will can become the object of indirect freedom, and within affective sphere freedom can actualize itself as cooperative freedom, as the skeleton of the affective celebrityworship experiences, or as indirect freedom, which prepares the conditions for the rising of these experiences. Therefore, intentionality implies that freedom presupposes truth, both in the ontological and in the gnoseological sense.
